Carol Dunitz, Ph.D.

Carol Dunitz graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Speech and English several months after she turned nineteen.  She went on to earn her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Speech Communication and Theater at Wayne State University.

Dunitz started her career in communications by following her own advice to clients, meaningfully differentiate yourself from the competition. Dunitz mounted an unorthodox advertising campaign in Crain’s Detroit Business through which she marketed her creativity.

Every week she appeared in the display classified section with a new disguise, forever reinventing herself. The ads ran for years and elevated her to cult status in the business community. She was often stopped on the street, at parties, even at the grocery store and asked for her autograph!

The image below shows five of the many disguises that were used in ads with clever or humorous headlines like "Word Nerd," "Out of the Mouths of Babes," "Duncan Dunitz," "Definitive Statements," and "Word Warrior."

Dunitz stood at the helm of The Last Word for more than fifteen years. She oversaw the development and implementation of effective marketing materials for companies and individuals. During this time, she wrote speeches for high level executives, books, promotional literature, web sites, white papers, press releases and more.

Today Dunitz continues to write for clients. She is also following a lifelong dream of writing, composing and producing musicals. She toured several years ago in “Bernhardt On Broadway,” and is planning to mount a production of “Mrs. President Lincoln” soon.
